It’s been a great year for members and guests at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre. In this review of the year, we take a look back at some of the things that have been going on in the busy Cambridge sports and fitness centre.
“Don’t You Dare Quit”, we bellowed from our Facebook page back in January, but really, why would you? There is just too much going on at Kelsey Kerridge to ever consider quitting. We think the three things that make us stand out from our competitors are: great customer service; high quality and well-maintained facilities/equipment; and a real variety of activities to help you get and keep fit.
Customer review of the year
Our members agree: “Really friendly staff who know what they are talking about,” says one regular customer. “It is always clean and tidy,” says another. And this lament from a customer who has moved away from the area: “I used to go to Kelsey Kerridge as it was the only place I felt comfortable and relaxed. I really miss this place.”
The refurbished sauna, hot tub and Outlooks changing rooms, which underwent a total facelift in spring, provide a classy place to relax and get changed. The decor, design and finish of the facilities would not look out of place in a top private gym. We really want our customers to feel special and the thought that went into the refurb reflects that.
New ideas just keep coming
At Kelsey Kerridge, Liane, Mustafa and the team like to keep innovating and pushing new ideas. In February, Broga hit the gym for the first time and customers were able to combine an energetic workout with the stretching and centring qualities of yoga. Needless to say it was a hit, particularly among those people who like to leave the gym sweaty and tired but know they need to concentrate upon their flexibility as well as their cardio fitness.
Insanity was introduced with a bang early in the year too. Muscle-pumping, heart-racing, adrenaline-creating, the fitness workout is a sensational way to get fit and have fun. And for those people who like their workout to be colourful, loud and vigorous, the Zumba Carnival in February was a great warm-up for the Brazilian vibe that hit the UK later in the year with the Rio Olympics.
A multicultural mix
Our customer base is a great multicultural mix, so during the sports extravaganzas that took place this year – namely the European football championships and the Rio Olympics – the centre was buzzing with people who had been inspired by their sporting heroes to get out and get fit. And then, just to keep that latino buzz for a little while longer, in October we held a spooky Zumba Halloween Party. Variety really is the spice of life here.
By midway through the year, the new functional fitness area was open and this has proven a revelation. Offering a new way to train, the area contains ropes, kettlebells, Bulgarian bags and heaps of other equipment that allows customers to train in a really smart way. Instructors are always on hand to offer advice and guidance and this is an area that is proving extremely popular with people who want to train their whole body to cope with the demands of everyday life.
Everyone loves a challenge
In this review of the year, we must mention our regular gym challenges. These have proven popular as people of all ages and abilities have discovered new levels of competitiveness. First it was the rowing challenge, then the functional fitness challenge and finally the burpee box challenge. The sight of someone lying broken on the floor after 90 seconds of high intensity work in the fitness area became a regular site this year.
There are also regular squash leagues, an incredible 35 different classes to meet all fitness requirements and, to ensure that no-one is priced out of a healthy lifestyle, this year we introduced a range of memberships and specially-priced gym passes. We think there is something at Kelsey Kerridge for everyone.
Which leaves us with very little else to say, except a big thank you to all our loyal customers and to wish everyone a very happy festive season and a healthy and happy 2017.
